Let's Talk About Centrepieces, Bud Vases and Garland

Pinterest is full of ideas for your wedding day! It can be an overwhelming task for some, and for others, pure joy! We have enjoyed working with brides this summer helping bring their Pinterest & personal-style vision to life.

One of the ways that helps set the tone for your wedding day is your table style. From bud vases to garland, centerpieces to posy jars, your wedding tables are key to getting your "vibe" for your day. Over the last couple of years, we have helped to create a vast amount of looks that are tailored to the bridal couple's style and vision.

For most brides (and us too!) Pinterest is the place to start. You can also check in on our social and website for additional inspiration. After spending some time on Pinterest (maybe too much time lol) you will look back on your saved pins and you should start to see a trend or style start to emerge.

A few key things to consider when you are looking at Pinterest and planning your table design:

  • are the flowers silk or real? - this is very important to determine. Silk flowers come in all the right colours and all the right sizes...real blooms have some limitations.

  • candles - we LOVE candles. Many venues now do not allow for real candles and you may have to use beautiful flameless (battery operated) versions. Some venues do allow for candles that have a hurricane glass-type protection and variance.

  • the tables will get fuller than you think- Pinterest isn't always realistic (shocking!!). Often wedding table designs pictured don't make room for water pitchers, wine bottles etc. Keep that in mind and know the dimensions of your tables ahead of time.

  • make a mock-up - a really important task in planning your tables. Take a picture and bring it with you (or share with your wedding planner). It will save an enormous amount of time on the day of set up.

  • be prepared to modify - even the best laid plans have to anticipate change. You don't know how many versions happened before the Pinterest-perfect was taken. Perhaps when you arrive at the venue, the tables are a bit larger than you thought, or the pitchers take up more space. Be prepared to adapt.

Centrepieces

One of the simplest ways to tie in your wedding bouquets to your table design is with the use of centerpieces. Centrepieces can be a mini version of the bridal bouquets or just the pop of colour that you want to pull through the whole venue. It is important to remember that the centerpieces should not be too high as to impede conversation across the tables or too small that they are lost. Another thing to consider is a small vessel goes a long way and holds more blooms than you can imagine. In our experience, people have been very surprised to see how large the centerpiece design is using a small bowl or vessel. We love some cascading greens using sprigs of mint, eucalyptus or even jasmine to give the design some fullness and texture. A good rule of thumb is to pick a focal point: blooms, bud vases, dinnerware or napkins and make the rest work to compliment it. For example, if you are hoping to use an eclectic assortment of fine-china, you may not want to have bright or busy napkins taking the focus away from them. Or, if your intention is to make the centerpiece "pop", then keeping to the same colour theme of blooms will do the trick:

Bud Vases

A very popular choice with brides this year are bud vases. Stand alone, in a group or alongside a focal design piece, bud vases have become very popular. The possibilities for these vases are simply endless. You can use a simple single stem, greenery or a combination of both. They also work well with eucalyptus garland or stand alone. Add a creative design element to change it up and your style will shine through! Think outside of the box or keep it traditional - sky is the limit! Below is a sampling of some of the fun adaptations of bud vases that we have used this summer:

Garland

What is not to love about garland? It adds subtle elegance and a beautiful mild fragrance to any table. We love putting the final touches on a table with garland made from a combination of several varieties of eucalyptus and some stems of Italian ruscus. Garlands can stand alone for a soft look or can be combined with bud vases, candles or vases of blooms. Super versatile and quite stunning:

We love working with a bridal couple's vision and style. Incorporating blooms and greenery with other items is one of our favourite things. We want your day to be an expression of your own unique style and personality. We are always happy to provide suggestions and alternatives to help meet your vision and budget, but ultimately the biggest compliment that we can receive is "that is exactly what I was looking for."

That's it for today! Stay tuned to our next blog post where we will review tablescapes. We have some beautiful samples from Michelle's time in England.

Stay tuned & be well!

Blessings,

Kathrin
